There are several things you should know about formalities and rules before travelling to or leaving France:
Exporting Currencies and Purchases
Currency
On leaving France :
- You can take unlimited amounts of currency with you, but
- You should declare to French Customs any currency, negotiable instruments or securities worth more than €7,622.45.
Before leaving, be sure be informed of any regulations applicable in your destination country.
Duty free purchases
You can reclaim Value Added Tax (TVA) from your purchases :
- if you live outside of the European Union,
- if you are over the age of 15.
When you leave France you will need to get your Export Sales Slips stamped by Customs
at the airport.
Goods subject to specific restrictions
The products listed below are subject to specific restrictions :
Cultural items
Species belonging to protected wild fauna and flora, and products derived there from
Live animals and animal products
Vegetation and vegetable products
Weapons and ammunition
Medicine and medical products (except for the traveler's personal use)
Wine, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and other regulated products
The right to information on your conditions of transport
As soon as you make your reservation, your travel agent must provide you with all of the information on :
- the airline operating the flight (even if another airline replaces the one shown on your ticket),
- changes of airplanes, stopovers and transfers between airports during the trip.
The right to compensation
After an accident
- You have the right to receive an advance to cover major expenses.
- You can file a complaint whatever the location of the accident.
In case of overbooking or cancellation, under certain conditions, you have the right to :
- a full refund of your ticket price, without penalty, or a replacement flight at a later date at your convenience,
- financial compensation from the airline if you are refused the right to embark :
- € 250 for flights of up to 1,500 kilometres,
- € 400 :
- for all intra-community flights of more than 1,500 kilometres,
- for flights of between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometres,
- € 600 for flights of more than 3,500 kilometres.
In case of a major delay
A major delay is one that lasts for :
- two hours or more for flights of up to 1,500 kilometres,
- three hours or more for :
- for all intra-community flights of more than 1,500 kilometres,
- for flights of between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometres,
- four hours or more for flights of more than 3,500 kilometres.
If you find yourself in this situation, you have the right to immediate care: refreshments, a meal and a night in a hotel, if necessary.
In case of a delay of more than five hours
You have the right to :
- a refund of your ticket if you decline to continue your flight only, or
- a free flight back to your initial point of departure, if you decline to continue your flight.
