The small covered market it the oldest one in Paris. It was established in 1628. The market closed in 1980 for renovation and reconstruction. It gathers about twenty vendors, including 15 market stands and a wine bar, with the typical fish, bread, fruit and veggie sellers. Everything you need for a perfect picnic!
The name "Red Kid Market" is from an orphanage, in the 16th Century which welcomed children and dressed them in red so people would know they were part of this house. Geoffroy d'Assy owned the market in 1772 and started some massive construction, adding things such as a fountain to wash the vegetables and implementing help in cleaning the stalls once everyone left.
The market, part of Paris since 1912, has two lovely flower stands, one on each side. One can find a fine variety of food: Moroccan, Libanese, Japanese (including maki), Italian, and Portugese.
